The Great Shepherd
Heb 13:20
April 18, 2008
“Now may the God of peace (who) by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ”
He cares for us. The shepherd has to feed and water the sheep. In the wilderness, the feeding grounds gets parched in summer and covered with snow in winter that many sheep and their young ones die without food. But when God led His people in the wilderness, they did not lack anything. He fed them with Manna and quenched their thirst with the cool refreshing waters from the Rock. He carried them on His shoulder like a father carries his son on his shoulders.
He leads us. The ancient shepherds of the east would go before the sheep and lead them. They will hear his voice and follow him. He would avoid dangerous routes and routes that would make the sheep weary. Our God leads us in the paths of righteousness. When we do not know which way to go He will show us and guide us. Isaiah 40:11 says “He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those that have their young”
He protects us from the enemy. Many dangers awaited the sheep from wild animals. The shepherd would watch over the sheep night and day to protect the sheep. David risked his life killing a lion and a bear and protected his sheep.
He loves us! The shepherds of the east treated their sheep-like their daughters. Jesus our great Shepherd loved us so much that He gave His life for us! What else will He not do for us?
He intercedes for us! Because Jesus is alive He intercedes for us in our infirmities and weakness. We have a great Shepherd a great High Priest, a great God who loves us and cares for us.
God raised Jesus, the Great Shepherd by the Blood of the Eternal Covenant. The Covenant will never change and Jesus himself will be over Eternal Great Shepherd and this is the Promise of the Covenant.
Cast your anxiety upon him. He will give you Peace!
