The Upper Room Prayer

April 3, 2008

(They) all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication. Acts 1.14

The 120 gathered in the upper room. They persistently prayed for one purpose; to receive the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised. He told them, “ I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Lk.24.49)

If He was dead and gone how could they pray to Him? But they did! Because they knew He was alive! They saw Him alive! He spoke with them and He ate with them.

After their final meeting with Him on Mount Olives, they returned back to Jerusalem with great joy! (Lk. 24.53) They saw with their own eyes Jesus going up to heaven!!! What a wonderful experience!

In the upper room, they prayed. What fervency! What expectation! What oneness!!! They prayed for the Holy Spirit. He promised!!! They knew and believed He would send!

Look at the pattern of their prayer. They prayed in the name of Jesus! You don’t pray to a dead god! So far they did not know to pray in His name. Jesus told them “Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it” Now they were praying in His name!

They prayed for 10 days. The best way of praying for Pentecost! The best way to bring revival.

Did Jesus answer their prayer? Oh yes! The glorious Holy Spirit of God came upon them just as He promised! What power! What transformation!

We can pray in His name! Whatever we ask He will give us because He is God and He is alive!!! (Jn. 16.24)
